NORTHERN LEOPARD FROG
Rana pipiens (2.0 - 3.5 inches)

Green to light brown with scattered rounded spots.  Yellow border around spots, especially near the dorsilateral fold.  No yellow markings on the thighs like the pickerel frog.

Habitat - variety of wetlands, especially fishless ponds.

Status in Wisconsin - common, but significantly declining.
The call is a loud, broken snore, oftentimes compared to the dragging of your wet finger over a balloon.

Breeding season: Early April - mid June
