PICKEREL FROG
Rana palustris(1.75 - 3.25 inches)

Greenish brown with paired dark brown blotches between its dorsilateral folds running down the back

Habitat - males prefer cold springs and streams, and females warm-water wetlands to speed egg production.

Status in Wisconsin - Special concern, but stable
The snore-like call of the pickerel frog is short and consistent, unlike the longer, more broken call of the leopard frog.  The pickerel frog call is usually quieter as well.

Breeding Season:  Early April - Mid June
