| 1) I will act in a responsible, mature, adult manner in the lab, and toward my lab partners.
2) I will follow all directions. If I don’t understand the directions, I will ask a teacher. 3) I will only do the experiments my teacher has approved or given to me, and I will follow all directions exactly as they are written. 4) I will leave all equipment and chemicals alone until instructed to use them 5) I will be safely dressed and groomed before starting a lab. a. Loose hair must be tied back b. Hanging sleeves must be held to my arms with rubber bands c. Shoes that cover my feet and have hard soles will be worn d. Safety goggles will be worn until all lab groups are cleaned up. I realize that glasses are a better option than contacts when dealing with chemicals. 6) No food, drink or gum will be consumed during a lab 7) I know the location and proper use of the following safety equipment: fire blanket, fire extinguisher, fire alarm, eyewash, safety shower. 8) I will be alert and careful of others in the lab. If I see any unsafe activity, I will tell my teacher. 9) I will consider every chemical to be dangerous; I will not taste or touch chemicals. 10) I will only use the hand wave method to smell chemicals. 11) I will not take chemicals or equipment out of the lab. 12) I will point a test tube at a slant away from people when heating. 13) I will allow glass and metal objects to cool before touching them and putting them away. 14) I will only used distilled water in a lab unless the teacher says it is okay to use tap water. 15) I will only take the amount of chemicals and supplies that I need for my lab work. 16) I will be careful when I carry things around the room, and will use both hands. If I break an object, I am responsible for paying for it prior to final exams. 17) If I break any glass item I will not touch the broken glass or leave the area. I will send someone to notify the teacher for proper cleanup. 18) If I spill any chemical I will not leave it unattended and will send someone to notify the teacher for proper cleanup. 19) I will dispose of all chemicals in the place where the teacher instructs me to, not down the sink or in the garbage. 20) I will not contaminate supplies by: a. Putting unused chemicals back into the supply bottles b. Transferring equipment (scoops, eyedroppers) from chemical to chemical. 21) I will do all my lab work at my assigned lab station, and will not leave my area unattended. If I have to get equipment, I will go directly to the supply table and directly back to my station. I will not wander around or stop to visit anyone. 22) I will avoid accidents by: a. Keeping all books under bags under my desk. b. Setting up equipment in the center on my workstation, not near the edge. c. Keep protective guards on the equipment in their place. 23) When using a burner, I will light and extinguish it properly. I will not play with the flame or put objects into the flame. a. close the air inlet valve b. light the match c. open the gas valve d. light the burner from the side, and wet the used match e. slowly open the air inlet valve to adjust the flame f. turn off the burner by closing the gas valve 24) If a fire happens during a lab, I will turn off my burner 25) At the end of the lab, I will: a. clean and return all equipment back where it belongs. b. Wash and dry my entire lab top. c. Wash my hands with soap. |
